“By abstracting the old streets and slums, my paintings try to reflect the Istanbul that has been changing ever since my childhood.”

The RGI Kelly Gallery is delighted to welcome Turkish artist Sule Ceylan. This is the first time that Sule has exhibited in the UK.

Surface to Depth features bold paintings reflecting the dramatic changes in Sule’s home city of Istanbul, where she has worked as an artist since 1999, exhibiting in galleries such as the Ortakoy Cultural Centre, the Bakrac Art Gallery, as well as winning several awards.

Şule Ceylan'ın son resim sergisi

Şule Ceylan'ın son kişisel resim sergisi İskoçya'nın Glasgow kentinde, Glasgow Kraliyet Enstitüsü'nün Kelly Galeri'sinde 15 - 26 Mayıs 2012 tarihlerinde açık olacak. Açılış kokteyli 17 Mayıs Perşembe günü 5 – 7 saatleri arasında yapılacak.

Kelly Galeri'nin sitesinde yer alan kısa sergi tanıtımı şöyle:
"Bu cesur resimler ressamın memleketi İstanbul'daki değişimleri yansıtıyor. Glasgow'u ve Kelly Galeri'yi sık sık ziyaret eden Şule, galeride sergi açma konusunda özellikle istekliydi. Şule bu sergide İstanbul'un o bildik imgesindense görünmeyen, öbür yüzünü resmetmeye çalıştığını söylüyor. 'Resimlerimde eski sokakları ve gecekonduları soyutlayarak, çocukluğumdan beri değişen İstanbul'u yansıtmaya çalışıyorum.'"

Sule Ceylan's latest art exhibition

Sule Ceylan's latest personal art exhibition will be open from 15th to 26th May 2012 at Royal Glasgow Institute's Kelly Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The opening reception will take place on 17th May from 5 pm to 7 pm.

"These bold paintings reflect the changes in the artist’s home city of Istanbul. A frequent visitor to Glasgow and the RGI Kelly, Sule was particularly keen to exhibit in the gallery. In this exhibition, Sule says that she has tried to portray the unseen or flipside of Istanbul as opposed to the more familiar image of the city. 'By abstracting the old streets and slums, my paintings try to reflect the Istanbul that has been changing ever since my childhood.'”

Kişisel Resim Sergisi

Şule Ceylan'ın son kişisel resim sergisi 17 Aralık 2011 Cumartesi günü 15:00 - 17:30 saatleri arasında yapılacak kokteylle Galeri Tasarım'da açılacak. Şule Ceylan's latest individual art exhibition will open with a cocktail on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 3 pm to 5:30 pm at Gallery Tasarim. The exhibition can be seen every day until January 7, 2012 between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm except Sundays. See the gallery's web site for the address:

Besiktas Municipality Ortakoy Cultural Center will be hosting Sule Ceylan's paintings between the dates 16 - 28 February. The artist explores Istanbul in her new works as well, but not with its well-known face, rather with a unique perspective that sometimes turns into a bird's-eye-view and almost presents us another Istanbul. Another striking element in Sule Ceylan's paintings is the power she gives to her expression by her colors; and she seizes the same effect by her composition.
